Jack Antonoff Sketch

Just had the chance to see the band fun. in Vancouver and they were completely incredible. I'd seen them last year when they opened for (and stole the show from) Manchester Orchestra. So I decided to try and do a caricature of them.
This is the first one - Jack Antonoff (also from the band Steel Train). Just a first attempt - I'd like to push it a lot more, a la Jota Leal or Kruger.

I think that's the most I've ever written about a post.

Also, check out my card store. I have a bunch of new stuff I'll be adding this week. Yay:

Ed Westwick / Chuck Bass Gossip Girl Caricature Sketch

Taking a break from other work. Quick sketch of the awesome Ed Westwick who plays Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl. Don't pretend like you don't love that show too.

Twilight Caricature

Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart from Twilight. I don't really understand the mass hysteria these actors and films cause, but what do I know? I still think Over the Top is one of the greatest films of all time.

Precious

I haven't seen this Precious movie, nor do I know anything about it, really. But I saw this poster for it and it intrigued me. I painted this the opposite way I normally do - from black to white rather than white to black. Unsuccessful! But it was fun in that annoying, challenging way. And that's my story.

Tony Dekker / Illustration Friday

This is Tony Dekker, from the tremendous Great Lake Swimmers.

They have a song called "I Saw You In The Wild", which came to mind when reading this week's Illustration Friday topic of "Wilderness".

Self-Portrait

Hey Friends, how's it goin'...

So artistswanted.com started this contest for artists from anywhere to submit a self-portrait of themselves in any type of medium they wanted. Even tattoo art, which is pretty stellar of them. The selling feature for me to enter was the fact that the exquisitely awesome Steve Buscemi is one of the judges.

So these are my submissions. If you win, you get to choose between a prize of $7007 or 6months free living in New York (i totally chose the NY option). Also the portfolio with the highest rating can win $1000. So if anyone out there who happens to be reading this right now feels like voting for me, you can click here and scroll down to the bottom and click on those stars there to rate me. Thanks friends!

Spock Star Trek Nimoy Caricature

This is a super-fast one of Leonard Nimoy.
I did it for the theme of 'Star Trek' on the secret sketch blog which I am in no way a part of / affiliated with. But (as the bot.bots can confirm), I am a fan of proclaiming myself a part of elite, by-invite-only groups. And so that is the story behind this quick painting.
The end.

Elvis Caricature Final

This be the final version. I changed the collar to make it more of a pop-up version like he used to sport. And I even added a shwanky signature to the bottom right. Neato, eh?
Thanks for the encouraging words on previous posts, friends!
Merry Christmas, and all that good stuff.

Quick Elvis

I usually sketch my stuff in Sketchbook Pro, but thought I'd switch it up and try starting from scratch in Photoshop instead. This is just a really quick one. I did the whole thing at 25% rather than zooming in and getting all caught up in details.

I kind of like the beginning stages of this. Might take it all the way to the finish line.

Time-permitting, of course...
:)

Zach Braff Caricature Sketch

Think I might try to paint this one, time permitting.

James Roday Caricature

I was lucky enough to have been an extra on set of the tv series Psych a couple of times this summer, and have been catching up on all the seasons since witnessing, in person, the comedic brilliance of the show.
This is a caricature of James Roday who plays Shawn Spencer on the show. I'm hoping to get one of Dule Hill done as well, who plays Gus, and do a final painting (time allowing).

Tom Waits caricature

I decided to abandon that weird / ugly llama thing and do a caricature of a musician as an animal instead, for the upcoming art show. This is Tom Waits as an orangutan. Or chimpanzee. I haven't really decided how I'm going to colour him just yet, but I think the reds of an orangutan would be fun to play with.

David Suzuki Caricature done

This is a piece I entered for an art show with the theme 'What Vancouver Means To Me'.
